Road update
November 10, 2010
Lincoln
Gap Road
is
closed for the winter; Warren and Lincoln have both put physical
barriers across the road. Recently, the Warren road
crew and our own road crew have had to go up the gap and sand
the road five different times so travelers who ignored the "closed" signs
could get down. It was bad enough up there that Warren's truck
nearly had an accident. Even if you like to use the gap in
spite of the ice and bad conditions, please make other plans.
It may not be convenient for you, but it is more convenient
than getting stuck, or worse, having or causing an accident.
The
Cemetery Bridge on West River Road
will
be closed 8am and 5pm Thursday, November 11, so that Parent
Construction can complete final improvements. Recent rain and
snow have forced changes in the original timetable. Detours
will be over Forge Hill Road or York Hill Road, depending on
your destination.
Patience
and Courtesy
Thank
you for being patient and not taking your frustrations out
on the people who are working on the bridge. It is no more
appropriate to yell out your car window at them than it
is for a co-worker in your office to walk by your desk and
yell obscenities at you.
Potholes
and Gravel
The
Lincoln Road Crew has been working to keep up with the increased
pot holes and ruts in the dirt roads that all the
rain we've had has caused. We have a small crew of hardworking
people, and everything takes time, especially when they have
to keep re-doing the same roads. It is not a lack of knowledge
or skills on their part that is causing the problem. Because
of budget problems over the last ten or so years, the gravel
on the roads has not been replenished and is down to the bare
bones. The Selectboard and Road Foreman, Les Tracy, will be
working to develop a short and long term budget plan to
include gravel for road improvement and proper maintenance.
Forge
Hill Road
has
water across the roadway near the middle and bottom of the
paved hill. We have had so much rain over the last few months
that the spring just below the surface of the road is bubbling
up through. Les is talking with the Selectboard about a quick
solution. While the road crew will work to keep it
sanded, there may be times when it is icy. In the meantime,
except for 8-5 on Monday of this week, consider using the River
Road, or anticipate that the bottom of the hill may
be icy and proceed with extreme caution.
Town's
Snow Parking Ban
is effective as of November
15th. It reads- "No person owning, operating or controlling a motor
vehicle, shall park, or cause to be parked, said vehicle on any street
or road within the Town of Lincoln so as to obstruct the plowing of snow,
from Nov. 15 through April 15, both inclusive; provided, however, that
the foregoing shall not apply to motor vehicles owned, operated or controlled
by person's attending the sick or injured, or attending church services."
Complaints
and Reports
Call
the Selectboard. Their numbers are: Barb Rainville- 453-5797;
Brian Goodro- 453-6143; and Elwin Isham- 453-2579. If you have
or see a problem with the road (like a tree down, broken culvert,
etc.), call the Town Garage. The number for the Town Garage
is 453-3703. They get all messages, and may or may not have
time to call you back- even though they will work to get out
and fix the problems.
